People say to me, “You’ll never retire, will you?” I answer, “Nooooo, why would I?” Besides paying for my teeth (which I think bought my dentist a new Acura), I love to protect my clients from “opposing agents” and their clients. It’s a joy to move my peeps smoothly through one of the biggest transitions in their lives.
And on the rare occasion that it’s not a smooth transition, there is joy at the end. As in Thank God That’s Over. I had warned my seller about the flipper company that made the highest of five offers on his mom’s fixer home. Forewarned is forearmed, but despite my recounting the gorey details of my previous escrow with that company, he wanted to move forward.
The purchase contract read all cash, “as-is,” 10-day close. The buyer had seen and signed all the disclosures and reports. We ended up with a substituted buyer, renegotiated price, financing, and a 35-day close. Despite the roller coaster, my client is happy. And I’m happy because when I thanked him for his business, he said, “Cathy, you are the only Realtor I would ever consider hiring.”
Why would I want to retire? The thrill of the game, the warm and fuzzies. And my husband just broke a tooth.
