Sometimes it’s dangerous for a man to have time on his hands…speaking as the captive wife of a man with time on his hands.
MyHusbandTheEngineer, lifting his head from the computer screen: “You know that guy I met – Steve? He’s selling his 1963 Austin Healey BJ7 Mark II.”
Me: “Mm hmm.”
MHTE: “He did a video about it. To sell it.”
Me: “Uh huh.”
MHTE: “And I was watching it, and it has roll-up windows and air conditioning, and he’s asking $130,000.”
Me: “Really. How old is it?”
MHTE: “Six years newer than mine.”
Me: “Well that makes yours more valuable – because it’s more collectible. Why would anyone pay $130,000 for that when they could just get an Acura?”
MHTE: “Well, I was thinking it would be more comfortable for you.”
Me: “Mm hmm…am I on title for ‘our’ car?”
MHTE: “I don’t think so. Just imagine how much more you’d enjoy riding in that car.”
Me: “Just think how lovely ‘we’d’ look if I showed up in that gorgeous Talbot’s blouse I didn’t think I should spend the money on.”
It’s always good to put things in perspective.
